TBR Finds (July16-24)

I have this portion on my blog where I post my recent TBR finds called Friday Finds (it’s a meme I’ve been participating for about some time now). But since it’s already Sunday here, I don’t feel right using that as my title. So I named it: TBR Finds. I’m so creative, lol.๐Ÿ˜

Here are some books I recently added on my to-read shelf on goodreads and what made me add them (title links to their GR page):

1. Gathering Frost by Kaitlyn Davis

– that cover is pretty๐Ÿ˜. And a snippet from its blurb:

Jade was only a little girl when the earthquake struck. Before her eyes, half of New York City disappeared, replaced by a village that seemed torn out of a storybook. Horses and carriages. Cobblestone streets. A towering castle. And, above all, a queen with the magical ability to strip emotions away.

Interesting right?๐Ÿ˜ธ

2. Minders by Michele Jaffe

image

– mysterious cover.๐Ÿ˜ฎ Snippet from its blurb:

Q: If the boy you love commits a crime, would you turn him in?

Sadie Ames is a type-A teenager from the wealthy suburbs. She’s been accepted to the prestigious Mind Corps Fellowship program, where she’ll spend six weeks as an observer inside the head of Ford, a troubled boy with a passion for the crumbling architecture of the inner city. There’s just one problem: Sadie’s fallen in love with him.

Unique premise.๐Ÿ‘

3. Hereafter by Tara Hudson

image

– another intriguing cover.๐Ÿ˜ฎ Snippet from its blurb:

Can there truly be love after death?

Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she’s dead. With no recollection of her past lifeโ€”or her actual deathโ€”she’s trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing butย willย him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.

I love the concept.๐Ÿ˜ป

4. The Scarecrow King by Jill Myles

image

– it’s a retelling and that cover.๐Ÿ˜ Snippet from its blurb:

Princess Rinda of Balinore knows of only one way to get her cold fatherโ€™s attention โ€“ to be an obnoxious, spoiled princess. When she finds out that the king plan to marrying her off to a far-flung nobleman, she puts on her best bratty show in front of the entire court. But Rindaโ€™s plan backfires, and she soon finds herself married to the most ineligible man ever. Her new husband is monastery raised, poor as dirt, and a traveling minstrel.

A very, very bad traveling minstrel.

A princess and a retelling to boot? I’m sold.๐Ÿ˜ป

5. The Storyteller’s Daughter by Cameron Dokey

image

– a retelling of the Arabian Nights.๐Ÿ™‹ Snippet from its blurb:

In a faraway kingdom, a king has been betrayed. Deeply hurt and bitterly angry, he vows never to be deceived again. Unfortunately, the king’s plan to protect himself will endanger all of the realm’s young women, unless one of them will volunteer to marry the king – and surrender her life.ย
To everyone’s relief and horror, one young woman steps forward. The daughter of a legendary storyteller, Shahrazad believes it is her destiny to accept this risk and sacrifice herself.

See? I love retellings.๐Ÿ‘

6. Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

image

– dubbed as an underrated series, so im adding it, lol.๐Ÿ˜› Snippet from its blurb:

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winteriansโ€™ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winterโ€™s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Curious, curious.๐Ÿ˜

7. The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove

image

– I’ve seen this on booktube. Love the premise.๐Ÿ‘ Here’s a snippet from its blurb:

Boston, 1891. Sophia Tims comes from a family of explorers and cartologers who, for generations, have been traveling and mapping the New Worldโ€”a world changed by the Great Disruption of 1799, when all the continents were flung into different time periods. ย Eight years ago, her parents left her with her uncle Shadrack, the foremost cartologer in Boston, and went on an urgent mission. They never returned. Life with her brilliant, absent-minded, adored uncle has taught Sophia to take care of herself.

I love love love the premise.๐Ÿ’œ

8. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renรฉe Ahdieh

image

– another retelling.๐Ÿ˜ Snippet from its blurb:

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad’s dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph’s reign of terror once and for all.

Can’t get enough of retellings.๐Ÿ˜

Yay. I added a lot more on my to-read shelf on goodreads but these are the ones I’m really excited for.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Happy Sunday friends!๐Ÿ˜˜
