TBR Finds (August20)

I’ve been busy but not that busy that I spotted a lot of gems this past days.😸

Here are the books I added on my goodreads this week and the ones I’m most excited for. Title links to their respective goodreads page:

1. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world…

When Aladdin discovers Zahra’s jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn’t seen in hundreds of years—a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra’s very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

2. Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin

Welcome to Elsewhere. It is warm, with a breeze, and the beaches are marvelous. It’s quiet and peaceful. You can’t get sick or any older. Curious to see new paintings by Picasso? Swing by one of Elsewhere’s museums. Need to talk to someone about your problems? Stop by Marilyn Monroe’s psychiatric practice.

Elsewhere is where fifteen-year-old Liz Hall ends up, after she has died. It is a place so like Earth, yet completely different. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and returns to Earth. But Liz wants to turn sixteen, not fourteen again. She wants to get her driver’s license. She wants to graduate from high school and go to college. And now that she’s dead, Liz is being forced to live a life she doesn’t want with a grandmother she has only just met. And it is not going well. How can Liz let go of the only life she has ever known and embrace a new one? Is it possible that a life lived in reverse is no different from a life lived forward?

3. Recurve by Shannon Mayer

My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental.

My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father’s side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn’t going to happen.

I’ve been accused of attacking the queen, my wicked stepmother, and my life is suddenly on the line. I have only two options left to me: banishment, or training to become one of the King’s Elite Guards, an Ender.

Option one will kill me.

Option two is meant to break me, but it’s the only way to survive.

Did I mention I have no power like the rest of the elementals, and my connection to the earth is worth next to nothing?

4. My Fair Princess by Vanessa Kelly

Despite being the illegitimate daughter of a prince, Gillian Dryden is happily ignorant of all social graces. After growing up wild in Italy, Gillian has been ordered home to England to find a suitable husband. And Charles Valentine Penley, the excessively proper, distractingly handsome Duke of Leverton, has agreed to help transform her from a willful tomboy to a blushing debutante.

Powerful and sophisticated, Charles can make or break reputations with a well-placed word. But his new protégée, with her habit of hunting bandits and punching earls, is a walking scandal. The ton is aghast . . . but Charles is thoroughly intrigued. Tasked with taking the hoyden in hand, he longs to take her in his arms instead. Can such an outrageous attraction possibly lead to a fairytale ending?

5. After The End by Amy Plum

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They’ve survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she’s trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

6. Plus One by Elizabeth Fama

A dying wish. A family divided. A love that defies the law.

Sol Le Coeur is a Smudge–a night dweller in an America rigidly divided between people who wake, live, and work during the hours of darkness and those known as Rays, who live and work during daylight. Impulsive, passionate, and brave, Sol concocts a plan to kidnap her newborn niece–a Ray–in order to bring the baby to visit her dying grandfather. Sol’s violation of the day/night curfew is already a serious crime, but when her kidnap attempt goes awry, she stumbles on a government conspiracy to manipulate the Smudge population. Sol escapes the authorities with an unexpected ally: a Ray who gets in her way, a boy she might have hated if fate hadn’t forced them on the run together–a boy the world now tells her she can’t love.

So many books, too little time. This is sooo true for me right now.😿

Look at these books! 😍

I need more reading time.😭

Anyways, happy weekend!😘

Phantom Shadows – Book Review

Title: Phantom Shadows
Author: Dianne Duvall
Series: #3 of Immortal Guardians

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was hesitant to start the third book on the Immortal Guardians series. One reason is that I’m not too fond of the lead guy.

There’s a lot of negative vibes on this book, lol. The black sheep of the Immortal Guardians family, Sebastien is not trying at all to be accepted by his newly found family. Only Dr. Melanie Lipton seems to see beyond his facade.

With the increasing number of deranged vampires, covert mercenaries and unneeded hostility, everything seems to be going wrong.

A lot of new characters were introduced. The French immortals are a bit prominent on this book.. I did enjoy this book, I just felt that the story seems to be going on a lot of directions, lol.😁

Will I read the next book? Definitely.😸👍

Night Reigns – Book Review

Title: Night Reigns
Author: Dianne Duvall
Series: #2 of Immortal Guardians

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

On the second book of the Immortal Guardians, it’s Marcus’ story! Yay! I love him on Darkness Dawns.❤

Then, his partner, which I won’t tell who, to hide her identity, is someone I was rooting for someone else. I was a bit bummed when I knew of the pairing…😮

But then, the pair grew on me and they really clicked. Love it.❤

This second book is more intense and action-packed.👍

I gave it a lower rating than the first book (0.5 difference, lol) because even though it was great, I think it’s more of a “setting-up” book for the succeeding ones in the series.

I’m enjoying this series and getting addicted to Dianne Duvall’s writing. Can’t wait to read the next one.😁💜

A Sorceress Of His Own – Book Review

Title: A Sorceress Of His Own
Author: Dianne Duvall
Series: #1 of The Gifted Ones

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow. This book is really amazing…❤ I love it!👍 And the time period and royalty aspects and paranormal flavor is well blended..😻

It is of the olden times when royalty is the reigning force in the society. There’s war and add magic, you have an amazing setting…

Our lead guy, Sir Dillion is a fierce warrior known for his fearsome skill in battle along with him having a sorceress aiding him.

It was halfway in the story that I realized that some of the characters here are in Darkness Dawns.😮 I was so thrilled but I was a bit ashamed to not remember that this book was written by the same author as Darkness Dawns.

I love the action, the mystery, the intrigue and the sweet romance.😍

I’m in a mood for a paranormal-ish books because of these books that was written by Dianne Duvall, my new favorite author.💜👍

August 12 is THE DAY❤

Hello friends!🙋

I feel like it’s been so long since I logged in on WordPress.. 😿

This very day, 12th of August, yours truly is celebrating TWO MAJOR EVENTS in my life. And I want to share it with you all.😁

OMG! This blog is celebrating its 5th month of existence today.. 💜

The world seems like in a fast forward mode. September is approaching and then in a blink, it will be Christmas season! My favorite time of the year!😍

Thank you for everyone who interacted with me for the past five months! You guys kept me going.😘 My posts will be a bit lessened this month because of my next news. But I’ll try my best to post and interact with everyone.✌

As you can see, today is my first day of work. After months of trying to look for a job, finally I found one.. 😭 I’m currently typing this after a tiring day from work. Everything hurts. But I’m so glad to find a job.🙌

While contemplating this I realize how awesome you guys are for being able to balance work and reading books.. Kudos to you!👍 I’ll try time management.😸

Darkness Dawns – Book Review

Title: Darkness Dawns
Author: Dianne Duvall
Series: #1 of Immortal Guardians

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

I love this! It’s been a while since I enjoyed a paranormal novel.. ❤

Roland, our lead guy is an Immortal Guardian, 900+ years of age who lives to protect humans from vampires. So here’s a story where vamps are the enemies..😁

Sarah is a normal human, with a normal job. She just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I love the way they met, haha. The plot, the writing and the characters are well established…👍 Even the secondary characters are engaging…❤

I was immersed on the world of the Immortal Guardians. I love them all!😘

The details and the action scenes are amazing.. And the romance didn’t took up majority of the book. I love that about it.👍

Hype Or Like Friday: 3 Magical Items From Harry Potter World I Wish I Have

Hype or Like Friday is a meme created by JillLarkin, and Britt to discuss about hyped books and see if they’re hyped up or not. There would be book of the month that you can read, and then post your review for it on the end of the month, then rate it whether it’s a hype it or like it.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the book of the month.

For this week, topic is:

“If you could choose 3 magical items from any Harry Potter book, which would you choose and why? Explain what you would do with them and how you would use them to your advantage.”

I love the topic for this week, so here goes my 3 magical items:

1. Marauder’s Map

I need this in my life..😭 Like badly! I honestly haven’t met someone who has a worse sense of direction than I am.. Well except him👇

…but let’s not talk about fictional characters that I love sooo much.😻

Anyway, as much as possible I need to have visited the place at least thrice before you can let loose of me alone in an area..✌ This item will be very helpful.😁

“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good… Mischief managed.”

2. Time Turner

Oh. My. Heart.😍

All the books I can read if I have this…💜

I really love the concept of time travel! And it can’t hurt that this necklace looks fab.💜👍

“You cannot be seen.”

3. My Own Wand

This is my most coveted magical item on this list.😍

All the spells.🙌 Nuff said.😛

Expecto Patronum.” – my fave spell

*I do not own any of the images on this post. Credits to their respective owners.*

I really love the Harry Potter world.😘

I’ll wait till the hype died down a bit on the Cursed Child before I read it.. Spoilers stay away from me.. Lol😁

Have a nice weekend everyone!🙋
