TBR Finds (October 22)

It’s been a while guys.โœŒ I found a lot of gems this week…๐Ÿ˜† Can’t wait to share them with you.๐Ÿ’œ

Here are the books I added onย my goodreadsย this week and the ones I’m most excited for. Title links to their respective goodreads page:

1. Nemesis by Anna Banks

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young kingโ€™s servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But Mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

– I’ve been seeing this cover for a bit now and finally read the blurb and I’m excited to get my hands on this.๐Ÿ˜†

2. Gamescape : Overworld by Emma Trevayne

The planet is dying. Centuries of abuse have damaged the earth beyond repair, and now all the authorities can do is polish the surface, make the landscape look pretty to hide the disease within. Two prominent yet mysterious businessmen couldnโ€™t fix it, either, but they did something even better. Together, they invented Chimera, the most complex and immersive virtual reality video game the world has ever known. The Cubes in which Chimera is played quickly became a fixture of this landscape: part distraction, part hospital, and almost wholly responsible for holding up the failing world economy.

Miguel Anderson is also dying. He isnโ€™t the only one who plays the gameโ€“everybody doesโ€“but Miguel has more reason than most: When players leave their Cubes for the day, the upgrades and enhancements theyโ€™ve earned for their virtual characters leave with them. New lungs to breathe poisoned air, skin that wonโ€™t burn under the sun are great and everythingโ€ฆ but Miguel, born as broken as the earth, needs a new heartโ€“and soonโ€“if he wants any hope of surviving just a little longer.

– one of my bizarre dreams is to live inside a game, lol.๐Ÿ˜

3. The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman

image

London, April 1812. On the eve of eighteen-year-old Lady Helen Wrexhallโ€™s presentation to the queen, one of her familyโ€™s housemaids disappears-and Helen is drawn into the shadows of Regency London. There, she meets Lord Carlston, one of the few who can stop the perpetrators: a cabal of demons infiltrating every level of society. Dare she ask for his help, when his reputation is almost as black as his lingering eyes? And will her intelligence and headstrong curiosity wind up leading them into a death trap?ย

– the time period, the blurb and demons? Totally in.๐Ÿ™‹

4. The Snow Globe by Jenna Nelson

image

By day, Sondrine Renfrew works at Cimmerianโ€™s Curio Emporium, her auntโ€™s apothecary and antique shop in London, 1875. By night, she weaves fire, water, and air into both inanimate objects and living creatures. When a hooded stranger offers Sondrine a snow globe in trade for medicinal herbs, she accepts, enchanted by the castle, forest, and sea encapsulated under the glass.

Her enchantment fades, however, when her deceitful aunt betroths her to one of Londonโ€™s wealthiest menโ€”a complete stranger. Determined to escape the marriage, Sondrine trades her corset for trousers and decides to run away. With one foot out the door, she falls down a veritable rabbit hole into Winterhaven, the haunting world inside the snow globe.

– I love the idea of diving into a snow globe world, so yep.๐Ÿ‘

5. The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley

image

It was whispered all through London Society that Ian Mackenzie was mad, that he’d spent his youth in an asylum, and was not to be trusted — especially with a lady.

Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord. Despite his decadence and his intimidating intelligence, she could see that he needed help- her help.

Because suddenly the only thing that made sense to her was…the Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie.

–ย  it’s been awhile since I read historical romance, so I’m adding this one.โค

6. Flame in the Mist by Renรฉe Ahdieh

The daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has long known her placeโ€”she may be an accomplished alchemist, whose cunning rivals that of her brother Kenshin, but because she is not a boy, her future has always been out of her hands. At just seventeen years old, Mariko is promised to Minamoto Raiden, the son of the emperor’s favorite consortโ€”a political marriage that will elevate her family’s standing. But en route to the imperial city of Inako, Mariko narrowly escapes a bloody ambush by a dangerous gang of bandits known as the Black Clan, who she learns has been hired to kill her before she reaches the palace.

Dressed as a peasant boy, Mariko sets out to infiltrate the ranks of the Black Clan, determined to track down the person responsible for the target on her back. But she’s quickly captured and taken to the Black Clanโ€™s secret hideout, where she meets their leader, the rebel ronin Takeda Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, his best friend Okami. Still believing her to be a boy, Ranmaru and Okami eventually warm to Mariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. As Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets, of betrayal and murder, which will force her to question everything she’s ever known.ย
