Accidental Mark โ€“ Book Review #21 (2021)

Title: Accidental Mark

Author: ่ถไน‹้ˆ

Series: Standalone

Format: Web Novel

Goodreads synopsis:

Pei Shaoze unintentionally heard about a novel called Accidental Mark. Once he woke up, he found he had transmigrated into the alpha scumbag in the book, Pei Shaoze. The omega protagonist of the novel, Cheng Xia happened to have his pheromones out of control. The original scumbag not only took the opportunity to mark the protagonist but also killed the protagonistโ€™s parents and ruined his reputation. The protagonist was completely blackened and returned five years later to stab the scumbag to death.

Pei Shaoze, โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ What type of melodramatic plot was this? Why not invest well in movies and TV shows when he was the boss? His brain was used to bully the protagonist. No wonder why he would be stabbed to death.

Therefore, he thoughtfully sent Cheng Xia home and helped select a school drama for Cheng Xia. โ€œThis drama is suitable for Cheng Xia and has the potential to be popular.โ€

It turned out to be really popular. Cheng Xia said, โ€œThank you, President Pei!โ€

โ€œCheng Xia should expand his shows and challenge himself.โ€

Cheng Xia whose fans soared to the tens of millions. โ€œThank you so much, President Pei!โ€

โ€œDo you want to try this drama? I think you are talented enough to handle this difficult role.โ€

At the awards ceremony, Cheng Xia said, โ€œThe person I want to thank most is President Pei!โ€ More

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

This is the first book I finished this month. I’m in a bit of a reading slump and it’s quite hard for me to finish a book recently but… finally!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

This is a web novel about Pei Shaoze who woke up and found himself in the world inside of a novel. This novel is an ABO world which isn’t something our ML is knowledgeable with.

On this world, our ML is supposed to gain 100 points of favorable impression with the main protagonist Cheng Xia to be able to get back on his original world.

Though it’s a transported-to-another-world kind of premise, it didn’t focus on that point. It’s like a slice of life in the entertainment industry, mainly on acting.

I enjoyed reading the book because it was very sweet and fluffy with just a little bit of conflicts added. I think I read it on the right time when I needed something that isn’t too complicated.

It has a simplistic plot with our main couple enjoying their smooth ride to HEA. Recommended for lazy reads.โค๐Ÿ‘

Superstars of Tomorrow โ€“ Book Review #18 (2021)

Title: Superstars of Tomorrow

Author: Lazy Cliche

Translator: Min_Lee

Series: Standalone

Goodreads synopsis:

Toward the end of the apocalyptic period, Fang Zhao lost his life. However, instead of dying, he found himself 500 years later in the body of a young and aspiring composer who shared the same name. Having received a second chance at life, Fang Zhao sets out to achieve the previous owner’s dreams.

Armed with the experience of living through an apocalyptic age and his profession as a composer before that period, Fang Zhao uses his talent, wits, and knowledge to make his mark in the entertainment industry of the future.

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

What a long journey. It took me about 5 days to finish this book.๐Ÿ˜

This web novel has 500+ chapters, per chapter is about 2 pages worth, so more or less 1000 pages? I didn’t realized it was sooo long BUT worth it.๐Ÿ‘

This is the story of Fang Zhao. This is a reincarnation, sci-fi and fantasy themed book. So Fang Zhao died during an apocalyptic war and reincarnated after 500 years. This is his journey as he try to leave his mark on history and enjoy the things he was unable to do on his previous life.

World building alone is already 5 star worthy for me. I don’t usually like over powered mcs but this one amazingly worked for me.

This one has lots of clichรฉs, face slappings and comedic undertone to it which are common on web novels. I totally enjoyed reading this.โค I lost a lot of sleep trying to finish this.๐Ÿ˜…

I love that it has composing, gaming, acting and military themes on it. Our mc is very versatile.๐Ÿ˜‚

A very enjoyable read recommended for fans of web novels.๐Ÿ‘โค

I will try to post my backlog reviews today. Wish me luck.๐Ÿค—โค

The Seeing Eye Dog โ€“ Book Review #17 (2021)

Title: The Seeing Eye Dog

Author: ้’่‰ฒ็พฝ็ฟผ

Series: Standalone

Goodreads synopsis:

Lu Chengyeโ€™s dream was to live freely and have fun until he died. Unfortunately, he inherited a company and was worked to the bone!

After finally taking over the company, he had just prepared to begin his carefree life when he was hit by a car and died. His last thoughts were that it would be much better not to be human in the next life.

And so, Lu Chengye was reborn as a Labrador.

My rating: โญโญ.75

What a disappointment.๐Ÿ˜ง

The premise of the book is when Lu Chengye died and reincarnated as a Labrador.

It started okay-ish and it was a bit heavy because of all the things that Lu Chengye’s owner experienced. I was hoping for a meng read, instead I was given an emotional start for the book.

I thought it will be a 3-4 star rating kind of book but things turned weird whenย Lu Chengye became a human again.

I did not feel connected to the monotonous plot. And it bored me and I almost dnf this book but I persevered hoping for the best. But I was totally disappointed and the 2 extra chapters are ridiculously unnecessary.

This book wasn’t for me.๐Ÿ™

It’s been a while friends.๐Ÿ˜…

Thinking of Deer Fei Fei โ€“ Book Review #16 (2021)

Title: Thinking of Deer Fei Fei

Author: Mo Li

Series: Standalone

Goodreads synopsis:

Fei Chang never thought that his secret would be known by everyone overnight.

If only his black history of talking back to his elementary school teacher came to light as soon as he made his debutโ€ฆ The problem was, he had not even made his debut yet.

Chen Yue Yang. What word should be used to describe him? Extraordinary, perfect, sexy, overbearing beauty. Just because Chen Yue Yang glanced at Fei Chang in the crowd, that very same night Fei Chang ran to check how many countries in the world allowed homosexual marriage.

Fei Chang is not gay. But he had to be prepared, just in case his idol proposed marriage, he must cry and say โ€œYes, I doโ€, and he must cry prettily ah.

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

This is a short web novel about two guys in the entertainment industry.

I didn’t realized how short this is until I finished it in just one seating.๐Ÿ˜…

So basically Fei Chang is a huge fanboy of Chen Yue Yang. And this story is how their lives suddenly entangled.

This is leaning more on the sweet side and it is a slice of life kind of story. It doesn’t have that much plot and I feel like it’s lacking on the sweetness and fluff too.

It was okay-ish for a short read. But I wanted more.

I will hopefully make a dent on my pending blog posts today. Fighting.๐Ÿ‘Š

The Trophy Wife โ€“ Book Review #15 (2021)

Title: The Trophy Wife

Author: Sunday Tomassetti

Series: Standalone

Goodreads synopsis:

What are friends for?

Wallflower Cate Cabot has always been content to keep the world at armsโ€™ length, particularly from behind the register at the upscale Floridian boutique where sheโ€™s worked for the last nine years. Her days are filled with old-moneyed locals and nouveau-riche tourists, most of them paying her no mind as she rings up their lavish hauls.

Until Odessa DuVernay.

At first glance, sheโ€™s just another picture-perfect Palm Shores trophy wifeโ€”until she proves herself personable, humble, and unassuming. She even goes so far as to take a genuine interest in Cate, inviting her for lunch dates, matinees, and girl talkโ€”a refreshing change of pace for the woman who never quite mastered the art of making (and keeping) friends.

But what begins as an unlikely friendship detours into the unthinkable when Odessa leaves Cate a panicked voicemail asking to meetโ€”and then ghosts her. And worseโ€”when Cate attempts to find her, itโ€™s as if the enigmatic Mrs. DuVernay never existed at allโ€ฆ

Consumed, Cate refuses to stop searching. But the truth wonโ€™t come easy.

In fact, it could cost her everything.

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

I rarely read books under the mystery genre. I have a few books under the genre that I could choose from. But lately I’m kinda in the mood for mystery, so I decided to read this.

Firstly, this is the story of Cate. She is a normal shop cashier and just living a seemingly routine life for the past years. Then came in a new customer of their shop and despite looking very rich is somehow approachable. They started a friendship and this is where the story is centered.

I will try to review this book without spoiling anything. This was a slow read for me on the earlier part and it was a bit boring for me. Nothing is happening apart from Cate obsessing over her mysterious friend. Midway through the book I was sure I can see the plot twist from afar. Then on the final reveal, turns out my predictions are wrong. But that’s because I didn’t catch any clues leading to the great reveal. Plot holes anyone?

Instead of goosebumps for the genius of the twist, it was more of a ‘Huh? What happened?’ kind of feeling.

Unfortunately this was a bit of a bland read for me. I guess Sean is the only sunshine on the book. Might still try out mystery this month.

I have so many pending posts. Just soooo lazy.โœŒ

Hidden Hollywood โ€“ Book Review #14 (2021)

Title: Hidden Hollywood

Author: Kylie Gilmore

Series: #1 of Happy Endings Book Club

Goodreads synopsis:

Sheโ€™s on topโ€ฆ
When superstar actress Claire Jordan researched her role for the Fierce Trilogy movies, she never expected the bond she feels with the author and her romance book club aka The Happy Endings Book Club. Soon Claire finds herself confessing her secret longing for a regular guyโ€”no more egocentric wealthy playersโ€”and the book club is all too ready to help. In disguise as a regular girl, sheโ€™s all set for a date with book-club-approved Josh Campbell.

Heโ€™s on topโ€ฆ
Billionaire tech CEO Jake Campbell is weary of gold-digging women, especially the glamorous superficial types. So when his identical twin Josh calls in a favor asking Jake to step in as him on a date, Jake figures one of Joshโ€™s cute girl-next-door types might be just what he needs. One night of passion with the sweet girl-next-door leaves Jake wanting more, except she seems to have vanished.

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

This is one among the many free contemporary romance that I got for free from the Kindle store. What interests me from the synopsis of the book is where a famous actress will end up in a date with a seemingly normal guy.

The story started okay with the book club thing going on. It was cute and I like the fact that the members have different personalities but are linked by books.

It kinda went downhill when the romance part started. The pacing is too fast it didn’t strike as believable to me. The conflicts that weren’t conflict at all. I didn’t feel connected to the story nor the characters. I just felt like things were flashing by and am unable to grasp on things.

It has potential if things were slowed down, just my opinion. Also instead of the main couple, the character that stood out for me is Hailey and Mad. Mad is great, quite interested with her story. But Hailey is such a chore to read. I didn’t like her at all.

If you’re looking for a quick romance read, this one’s for you. For me, this was a bit so-so.

I’m having difficulties drafting my posts after updating my WordPress app. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Game Changer โ€“ Book Review #12 (2021)

Title: Game Changer

Author: Sierra Hill

Series: #1 of Change of Hearts

Goodreads synopsis:

Up until two years ago, I was living large and my lifeโ€™s priorities were anchored to three things โ€“ my NBA stardom, money and celebrity.

I was also a colossal dick.

Until one night turned my world upside down and I suffered unspeakable loss. That event changed the man I was and made me a widowed-single father.

Now Iโ€™m a desperate parent trying to raise my special needs son and find him a trustworthy live-in nanny.

Grad student Brooklyn Hayes may be the one, with her single-minded focus on caring for my son and finishing her Masterโ€™s degree. Sheโ€™s the perfect fit for our needs.

Maybe too perfectโ€ฆ with her bright smile, nurturing kindness and gentle touch. Caleb isnโ€™t the only one whoโ€™s fallen for her.

I donโ€™t know when or how it happened, but she changed the game for me. Turning my losing streak into a winning second-half.

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ.5

This is a single dad and nanny romance, so if you’re into that, this might interest you.

On this story, we have Garrett and his 4 year old (not sure) son Caleb. Their old nanny retired and needed to hire a new one asap. Here comes Brooklyn a grad student looking for a summer job.

I wanted to love this book so much but there’s just too many things that didn’t work for me. I only love one character on this book and that’s the young child Caleb. Caleb is soooo cute and just tugs at my heart. I love him to bits and the only sunshine while reading this book.๐Ÿ˜

The main couple’s chemistry is believable but the reason for it? Attraction at first sight. The push and pull that they were doing all throughout the book was soooo frustrating.

Time skips are deal breakers for me especially ‘after a month’ kind of trick. The pseudo conflict that was fixed on its own and a one dimensional villain that didn’t add anything on the story.

I still love some parts of the book especially the sweet moments with Caleb. Caleb saved my rating for this book.๐Ÿ‘

My go-to books are adult contemporary romance. I have lots of books under this genre and I will try to make a dent on them this year.๐Ÿ‘Š

May 2021 TBR

Hello friends! Hello May!ย ๐Ÿค—

Wow. Without me noticing, it’s now the 5th month of the year. Like how crazy is that, right?

Recently I realized that I have too many unread eARCs on my kindle. It is all on me because whenever I finish one eARC, I add 3+ eARCs after. Like for some crazy reason, I’m rewarding myself after reading only one book.๐Ÿ˜…

May already started and I have finished some books and currently reading some. Below are my updates and my tbr for May. I might dedicate this month for my unread eARCs.

April 2021 Monthly Wrap Up

Wow, April is done again and I feel like the month just passed by in a blink of an eye.๐Ÿ‘€

April was a slow month for me in terms of reading. This month I only managed to finish 3 books.๐Ÿ˜ถ

Below are the books I have read:

1.) Strongly Pampered Male Wife by ่ตค่„šไธ‹็š„่ทฏ – ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ.5

2.) I Am Not Thirteen by A.O. Monk – ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

3.) The Swedish Prince by Karina Halle – ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

There are lots of stuff that distracted me from reading this month. I’ll mention a few (my excuse for just reading 3 booksโœŒ) things that occupied my time.๐Ÿ˜…

1.) Netflix – this black hole is the major culprit for my measly progress on my reading. Though watching series is a way for my mother and I to bond so I really can’t dislike it.

For this month, we finished 2 series. Yep, TWO.๐Ÿ˜… Both of these deals with afterlife and ghosts.๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ“บ Abyss – 7/10 ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ“บ Hotel Del Luna – 8/10๐ŸŒŸ

2.) Legend of the Phoenix game – I spend a lot of time playing this. I can’t believe I’m trying to maintain 4 accounts on this game.๐Ÿ˜†

So this is what happened in April. Hopefully I’ll accomplish more on May.๐Ÿค—

The Swedish Prince โ€“ Book Review #10 (2021)

Title: The Swedish Prince

Author: Karina Halle

Series: #1 of Nordic Royals

Goodreads synopsis:

I never believed in fairy-tales.

Never held out for Prince Charming.

Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of twenty-three.

Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my doorstep.

At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich.

But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktorโ€™s faรงade.

Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role heโ€™d rather not fulfill.

He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.

Yet uncovering Viktorโ€™s secret was only the first step.

I didnโ€™t expect to fall in love with him.

I didnโ€™t expect to have my whole life turned upside down.

When youโ€™re from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle?

Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?

My rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

I love modern day Cinderella trope and fortunately I happen to chance upon this book on Kindle store for free.๐Ÿ˜„

This is the story of Maggie and Viktor. Both of them recently lost a loved one and made it possible for their lives to intersect. Viktor is the prince of Sweden and while in a vacation or break incidentally checked in on a hotel where Maggie is working.

This book has lots of steamy scenes on it so you’ve been warned.๐Ÿ˜… I love that we are given both the povs of Maggie and Viktor. I love Maggie’s family especially Callum and also Viktor’s friend Magus. I love how descriptive the writing is. I feel like I was really in Sweden.๐Ÿ‘

Usually with tropes like this, there are lots of hurdles needed to overcome before attaining an HEA. I felt the conflict and very much into the story. There are just some parts that were slow and I feel like things happened too smoothly that it was a bit unrealistic(?).

Overall, it was a pleasant read. A bit too cheesy at some parts (imo) and also lots of scenes nsfw that I think aren’t that necessary. But still recommended for those who loves romance and royalties and light reading.๐Ÿ‘

Modern day Cinderella is a trope I never get tired of.๐Ÿ˜…

Any recommendations you can give me?๐Ÿค—
